Untitled by A Soldier

It’s the twilight zone
The calm of the eye itself
Fires rage, eyes alight with intent, hearts are broken - and yet the tears refuse to fall
Trees have fallen.
Rockets have fallen.
Building crashed to the ground.
My friend has fallen and then returned to Gods embrace.
And yet
My tears are stubborn.
They push against my throat, making it hard to swallow - to scream.
They push against my hands, shaking wanting to do everything, anything. To hug, to hold, to help.
They push against my legs, frozen but just waiting to hear the words “run”
They’ve pushed against my heart.
The flood gates should be broken wide open, a cracking even. A spurt. Maybe a trickle.
But no
My mind has yet to catch up to my emotions let alone my body.
It’s the twilight zone and I fear what will happen when dawn finally rises
