ABOUT US

Why?

The goal of Yedid Nefesh (Powered by Yavneh) is to bring our connection with God back into the conversation. We understandably sometimes tend to forget where our thoughts and actions are supposed to be directed, and Yedid Nefesh aims to shift our thinking back to Gd.

Having a relationship with God is not easy. In fact, it is very hard. In Shir HaShirim (Song of Songs), we read about the ups and downs of our relationship with Him. How can we make these ups and downs easier to cope with? Perhaps by talking about it.

I have found that discussing this topic is uncomfortable for a lot of people. Probably because it can be very personal. But I truly believe that the only way to keep our connection with Him strong is to talk about the good, the bad, the ease, the challenges, and everything else. If we do that, I believe people will feel less alone and more secure in the complexity.

We also often get lost in the technicalities of the things we do. Now, those technicalities are extremely important because there are rules and criteria we have to meet. But there is also supposed to be emotion, there is supposed to be connection. What would happen if we not only had intellectual conversations at our Seder night on Pessach, but also talked about the love God showed us by taking us out of Egypt? What would happen if instead of trying so hard to stay up all night on Shavuot to learn Torah, we talked about what it means that we have the Torah and how much beauty it infuses into our lives? These are the things we want to focus on in Yedid Nefesh.
